A coupe is always the right answer. Or as i might say, the perfect Daily.
F22 - 220d Coupe - 1C - RWD - Alpinewhite
This is my personal coupe, i bought it in August of 2021 with 87.000 km on the Odometer and after a year of Ownership it now has around 126.000 km on it. It's my daily and i'm not thinking of selling it or maybe i am but only for it's bigger brother (235i/240i or M2) and here is why.
So let me tell you how this little love affair started. My first love was the e28 M5, still is the car I want to own one day. But my personal experience with it is limited, it was just one drive and I was 12 years old so I sadly couldn't be the one driving the beautiful piece of engineering by the friends of the BMW Motorsport devision. But that feeling of how a car is suppose to make you feel stuck with me until this day.
Let's speed forward a couple of years, i'm 28 and somehow this F22 coupe comes in because somebody wants to buy a different car that suits their evolving lifestyle more. I looked at the car & didn't hesitate, noticed a small piece that needed changing or improving here and there but the package was what I sought after. So purchase complete.
The Idea was to get a E87 123d or 135i but those are rare if you look for a clean one. Why a diesel you ask, my commute is around 88kms a day so that's one argument, but why a 135i as a second choice then ? Because if i could, i would dummy, the N54/55B30 is an awesome engine that i still want to have in such a chassis.
For me though, let's be honest I made a grown up decision, which I'm pretty pleased with. The car is light (1340kg), small and exactly what I want to drive on a daily basis and most importantly it is a Manual. Yes, 3 pedals, rear-wheel drive, fun little coupe. Twitchy yet stable, agile on backroads and comfortable on the highway for the commute and for long GT drives. We took it from Luxembourg to Portugal in the first 30 days I owned it. Enough space for 2 people + luggage, with an average of 5,6L / 100km. Once there I could have fun on those twisty backroads because the car is so light. Once we returned, about 6.000km later, I took it to Shiftech for a Stage 1 remap just because the original map on the engine from factory lacked in smoothness, a little power and torque while we're at it. Months later H&R lowering Springs found their way on the car, it just sits right now.
So will I keep it. For now for sure, i had my eye on a different coupe but it didn't pan out.
I will stick to a BMW for sure, they're not perfect, but somehow the driving-feel just suits me, they're not for everyone I get it, it wouldn't be fun if that was the case. But for me a small stickshift coupe just makes me smile on a daily basis and that's what i wish for everyone.
